The Cat Cafe Sends Five Cats Home in October 2017

In October 2017, The Cat Cafe sent five cats to good homes and raised $293 to help The Rescue House carry out its mission of saving cats. The five cats who went home, Blaise, Yogi, Lila, Nathan, and Finley, brought the total number of cats sent home by The Cat Cafe to 261 since January 2015.

“It’s always fun to send cats home,” said Tony Wang, general manager of The Cat Cafe. “Sometimes, though, if they’ve been with us for a while, it can be a little bittersweet. So while we were really happy that Nathan and Lila went home, it was a little sad for us to know they wouldn’t be greeting us when we came in the next day. But sending Ninja Nate and Little Liles home means that we are able to help The Rescue House take care of more cats.”

“We’re also happy that our customers helped us raise close to $300 for The Rescue House,” added Wang. “This goes directly into helping The Rescue House with the supplies and services they need to keep operating. People like the ones contributing are a big part of the reason why The Rescue House has been able to send over 13,000 cats to good homes since they were founded in 1999.”

In addition to giving you the results from October, we want you to meet the newest member of the clowder. The Rescue House decided we didn’t have any fluff at The Cat Cafe. So, they figured we needed a long hair cat.

Meet Roxy at The Cat Cafe
Roxy

And that is why they brought Roxy in to join the clowder at The Cat Cafe. Roxy is a black and white domestic long hair. She’s very inquisitive and friendly when it’s quiet. Even when there are a lot of people, she peeks out into the playpen to see what’s going on. This four year old tells the other members of the clowder to back off if they get too close. But we’re sure that will change once she gets used to the space.

Roxy’s arrival brings the number of cats in our clowder to 12. Come on in, enjoy a coffee, and have fun with them!

Meet the Four Latest Cats at The Cat Cafe

At The Cat Cafe, we said goodbye to several cats recently, including long term residents Nathan and Lila. We will miss Ninja Nate appearing from nowhere, and we’ll miss Lila’s chirp meow. Sending them to a good home made things easier for us and and made us happy. With those cats finding new homes, The Rescue House brought additional cats in. Let’s introduce them to you.

The first group of cats are a group of sisters who all have names starting with the letter G. And even though these three girls all are part of the same litter, they’ve got different personalities and one of them has a completely different coat pattern from her sisters!

Fortunately for these girls, a kind person found them when they were still nursing. In order to help these cats thrive, an animal rescue group brought them to a foster home, where they were raised in safety and with a lot of love. This really helped with their socialization, and when you see them interacting with people at The Cat Cafe, you’ll see how.

Meet Gemma at The Cat Cafe
Gemma

Gemma is the most outgoing of the three. This orange tabby was exploring the playpen within minutes of arriving. She quickly started walking around with her tail in the air, and she started soliciting attention from people who she had just met right away. She quickly decided that she liked being by the windows, and that’s where you’ll find her most of the day.

Meet Glory at The Cat Cafe
Glory

Even though Glory looks a lot like her sister, she has a completely different personality. She’s a lot more cautious and takes a little while to warm up to people. She spent most of her first days at The Cat Cafe in the retreat, but when we went in there, she was very affectionate. She’s also got a demanding meow and if she wants your attention, you’ll definitely know it!

Meet Gracie at The Cat Cafe
Gracie

Yes, Gracie is definitely part of the same litter, even though she’s got a completely different color pattern. You’ve probably heard that cats like being up high. Gracie is proof of that. She quickly found that the top of the Urban Feline Carribean palm is the highest spot she can go to. So she goes there! And if you can get Gracie to come down, she may hop into your lap to show you affection.

Meet Sadie at The Cat Cafe
Sadie

Sadie is the only arrival who isn’t part of this group of sisters. You’d never guess it from how well she’s integrated into the clowder at The Cat Cafe. Sadie has been through a lot in her ten months of life. She and her kittens were dumped at a high kill shelter. Both she and her kittens were in horrible shape.

Fortunately, a rescue group stepped in and nursed these cats back to health. And Sadie blossomed with love and proper care. Pet Sadie, and she may hop into your lap to show you she likes it. And if she does that, her purr motor will really get going.

Come on in and meet the latest members of The Cat Cafe clowder. Who knows? You may fall in love with one of them and want to take them home! Or, you can just say hello to them and enjoy spending time with them.

The Cat Cafe Sends Five Cats Home

In September, we transition from the busy summer months into the more calm fall months. We don’t have as many visitors stopping in at The Cat Cafe, but we still have plenty of cats to entertain those who do come to visit. And for five of the cats from The Rescue House, September was a very good month. They went to their furever homes.

Marigold Was Adopted at The Cat Cafe
Marigold

We sent Marigold, Felix, Daytona, Ronaldo, and Marco home in September. We’re always happy at The Cat Cafe when we send any cat home, but we’re especially happy to have sent Felix and Daytona home. Felix is blind, but he doesn’t let that slow him down. And when we told customers that Felix couldn’t see, many times they were amazed because they saw him running around the playpen like he could see everything.

Daytona could see just fine, but he suffered a fractured pelvis and because of that, he walked with a limp. The strange thing about his limp is how nobody noticed it when he was running. His limp became much more visible when he walked.

In addition to sending five cats to their furever homes, which took our total adoptions to 256, The Cat Cafe raised $293 for The Rescue House in September. We’re glad our customers help us raise these funds so that they can continue to do their good work.

As the days get shorter and we move into the fall, we’re happy that we’re continuing to see far more customers than we did the year before. That tells us that you’re enjoying your time at The Cat Cafe. We’re hopeful that this trend will continue. That will help us send more cats to good homes!

Please come in and visit us. Enjoy a hot drink instead of a cold one if it’s too chilly. And regardless of the temperature outside, you can count on warm and friendly cats here at The Cat Cafe.

Six Cats Join The Clowder

We’ve adopted out a lot of cats at The Cat Cafe lately. That’s why six new cats joined our clowder and why we’ll jump right into introducing them to you.

Meet Fig at The Cat Cafe
Fig

Fig is a boy who’s going on four years, and he’s an inquisitive and playful guy. You’ll find him entertaining customers with his antics and fun nature. Fig is cross eyed. But people say it makes him look even cuter. And he doesn’t let it slow him down.

Meet Nellie at The Cat Cafe
Nellie

Nellie is about a year and a half, but she’s been through a lot. The house she was staying in burned down. She escaped, and returned to what was left of the linen closet to give birth to her kittens. Nellie went to a foster home, where she raised orphaned kittens in addition to hers. Now she’s looking for a home of her own.

Meet Finley at The Cat Cafe
Finley

A kind person found Finley wandering, and decided that he was so friendly he’d do well in a home instead of on the street. They were right! Finley loves to play and he entertains everyone when he gets going. At six months, he’s the youngest member of the clowder.

Meet Gidget at The Cat Cafe
Gidget

A trap, neuter, and return program found Gidget in the Imperial Valley. But Gidget is friendly and doesn’t belong in a colony of feral cats. She belongs in a home of her own. That’s why the TNR program contacted The Rescue House, and we’re glad this girl who’s about a year old ended up at The Cat Cafe.

Meet Blaise at The Cat Cafe
Blaise

Blaise also comes from the Imperial Valley. The people who found her contacted The Rescue House, asking for help. When they saw how playful and fun this girl who’s going on a year acts, they decided she needed to go to The Cat Cafe. Blaise is already playing with toys and goes running across the playpen when she’s in the mood.

Meet Manuel at The Cat Cafe
Manuel

Last, but certainly not least, is Manual. Manual got a second chance on life with The Rescue House after being taken to a facility to be euthanized. He came to The Cat Cafe because we’ve had success with cats like him. This four year old has lots of life left, and would love a home where he gets the help he needs losing weight.

As we said, there are a lot of new felines to meet at The Cat Cafe. Come on by, say hi to some of these cats, and spend some time with ones you’ve met already.

Newest Arrivals Include a Special Cat

It’s always a fun time for us at The Cat Cafe when we welcome new cats in. First, it means that we’ve sent another cat to a good home, because the cats stay here until they get adopted. And it’s always fun to welcome new cats who we can get to know. We of course miss the cats who we send home, but knowing we have the chance to find good homes for additional cats takes the sting out.

So when the three most recent cats to join our clowder here at The Cat Cafe arrived, we enjoyed it. But this clowder includes a special needs cat. We especially enjoy having cats like him around. We can show our visitors that just because a cat has special needs isn’t a reason t pass them by. We’ll introduce you to this cat first.

Meet Felix at The Cat Cafe
Felix

His name is Felix, and he’s about a year and a half old. Felix has a few things that will make it a little more difficult to adopt him out. First, he’s a black cat. Unfortunately, black cats are the last ones to get adopted due to foolish superstitions. Felix is also blind.

But being blind doesn’t stop Felix from being a fun and playful cat. Felix learned the layout of the playpen in just a day or two. Then he started to play and run around like any other cat. There will be some things his adopters need to do, but if they’re willing to do a few minor things to accommodate Felix, he’s going to be a great companion.

Meet Zara at The Cat Cafe
Zara

We also welcomed Zara to our clowder. She’s also about a year and a half old. Zara made a long journey to get to The Cat Cafe. She traveled all the way from Barstow to get here. Zara raised two kittens who got adopted. Now she needs a home for herself.

Meet Yogi at The Cat Cafe
Yogi

The third feline to join the clowder at The Cat Cafe is Yogi. He’s a little older, at around four years. Yogi is extremely friendly and will walk up to people he just met to say hello. And if you don’t pay enough attention to him, he’ll let you know you should with a very cute meow.

Come on in, enjoy a drink, and hang out with the latest members of the clowder at The Cat Cafe. Who knows, you may fall in love with one of them and want to take them home.

Five Felines Join The Cat Cafe Clowder

We had a couple of adopters take home some long term residents of The Cat Cafe. Diva and Jesse went home first. These two stayed with us for a couple of months despite people thinking they’d go home quickly. Then Boo and Herkie, who were among the first cats from The Rescue House, went home. We’re going to miss these guys, but we’re glad they found a good home.

When cats find homes, new cats arrive. And we’re happy to introduce you to the five new members of the clowder at The Cat Cafe.

Meet Daytona at The Cat Cafe
Daytona

When you see Daytona, you may think he’s hurt. You’ll definitely notice his limp when he walks around. No, this ten month old boy isn’t hurt. He is dealing with his joint issues just fine. You’ll notice his limp more when he walks than when he runs. And when he turns the purr motor on, you’ll completely forget it.

Meet Marigold at The Cat Cafe
Marigold

Marigold is the smallest of the recent arrivals at The Cat Cafe. Customers often ask if Marigold will grow more. Because she’s 11 months, she’s not likely to grow more. She’s a playful and fun girl and she can be a little mischievous. And that’s why she’s already become a customer favorite.

Meet Ronaldo at The Cat Cafe
Ronaldo

After two bonded brothers, Boo and Herkie, went home, we just had to bring in another bonded pair. Marco and Ronaldo are a couple of orange tabbies. These brothers are a little over a year old. They’re friendly, but they’re also a little shy.

Meet Marco at The Cat Cafe
Marco

Right now, they spend most of their time in the retreat. We’re working to get them out into the playpen, but they’re not ready for that yet. Give them time, and we’re sure someone’s going to fall in love with these two brothers.

Meet Brittany at The Cat Cafe
Brittany

Last but certainly not least, we’ve got Brittany to introduce you to. She’s about a year and a half old. And she spent exactly no time in the retreat after we let her out of her carrier. She walked right out into the playpen and started exploring. Brittany loves to be pet, and she came from a home with a two year old and a baby, so she’s okay with respectful young children.

Come on by and meet the five newest members of The Cat Cafe clowder. But don’t wait too long. A number of people have asked about adopting some of these cats. If you wait too long, you may miss out on seeing them! We hope to see you at The Cat Cafe soon to say hello to these new cats and ones who have been around longer.

New Weekend Procedures At The Cat Cafe

At The Cat Cafe, we’ve always wanted to be a place where people could visit on an impromptu basis. We don’t like the idea of requiring reservations to get in. While we have reservations for those who want to get in at a specific time, the idea of requiring everyone to make one doesn’t sit well with us. We don’t plan on requiring reservations except during peak times like Comic-Con. This has worked well for us for most of the time we’ve been open.

The Crowd on Some Weekends at The Cat Cafe
The Crowd on Some Weekends at The Cat Cafe

Lately, however, we’ve had upwards of 20 people waiting to get in to interact with the cats. And we’ve had to warn people that they were looking at an hour wait to get in and turn some of them away. We know our customers don’t like this, and we don’t like it either.

We learned quite a bit about how to handle large crowds during Comic-Con. And we’re going to put those lessons to use with a new system for the weekends.

People who want to visit will still be able to make reservations to hold their spots and to visit with the cats for an hour. We’re not changing that. If you want to be sure to get in at a specific time, please make a reservation.

What we are changing is how we admit people into the cat playpen if they don’t have a reservation. We won’t have people enter as space becomes available any more. Instead, once we go on a wait, we will admit people on the hour and half hour. And we will clear the room five minutes before the next group comes in.

Customers who arrive at The Cat Cafe without reservations will still make their purchases and head to the outdoor seating to enjoy their beverages and the San Diego weather. When you make your purchase, we’ll let you know what group you’ll be in. And we’ll let you know when you’ll be heading in to the cat playpen.

This system won’t eliminate waits on busy days. However, we feel that adding structure to our admissions will make it easier. We’re happy to take any questions you may have. Thanks for understanding that we need to make changes as we continue to grow and help more cats here at The Cat Cafe.

Meet The Cat Cafe’s Latest Arrivals

We’ve had a lot of new cats join The Cat Cafe clowder, and it’s time to let you know about them. We hope to see you visit us to meet these cats. Hopefully, someone will fall in love with them and take them home.

Meet Tiger Lily at The Cat Cafe
Tiger Lily

We’ve always had a soft spot for bengal cats, and Tiger Lily is no exception. She was lost or abandoned, and was wandering the streets of Los Angeles when she decided that she wanted to be inside. She walked up to the door of the person who took her as a foster, and loudly demanded attention. When that person posted on a bengal cat rescue group they needed help, we offered The Cat Cafe as a potential foster home for her. Now, this 7-10 year old cat is part of our clowder. She’s very vocal, and you’ll find her licking condensation off cold drinks.

Meet Cruiser at The Cat Cafe
Cruiser

Cruiser won’t wait for you to introduce yourself. He’ll do it himself. He’s about a year and a half, and he’s full of energy. When you meet him, you’d never believe that he fell off a balcony and broke a leg. The veterinarians who treated his broken leg also discovered that he had knee issues. So, after his broken leg healed, he went back to them for knee surgery. You’ll notice that Cruiser has a limp, but it doesn’t slow him down at all. He loves running around and showing people that despite his injuries, he’s a fun and playful cat.

Meet Jeanette at The Cat Cafe
Jeanette

Jeanette was fending for herself in the Imperial Valley. Fortunately for this two year old girl, someone found her, and she made her way to The Rescue House. Since arriving at The Cat Cafe, she’s shown she’s a playful girl, and she loves it when people come over and pet her. She’ll respond with head bonks. If Jeanette’s in the mood, she’ll entertain you by tossing her toys in the air and sometimes, she’ll even fetch them for you.

Meet Monty at The Cat Cafe
Monty

Monty, as we’ve decided to name him, has been through a lot in his eight years. First, he suffered from abscesses on his ears. The doctors drained the abscesses, but then his ears collapsed. Now, Monty looks like a Scottish fold. Monty then got surrendered, and he was pretty sad. Soon, though, he found his way to a new home. Things looked good for Monty, but the neighbors complained about his yowling. They said it was too loud. The apartment complex’s management told Monty’s people they needed to rehome him or they would face eviction. And that’s how Monty made his way to The Cat Cafe.

As you can see, we’ve got a wide range of cats for you to mingle with right now. Come visit us at The Cat Cafe and see if you fall in love with one of these cats. Who knows, they may be the perfect cat for you!

The Cat Cafe Sends Two Cats Home In July 2017

As you all know, July is always a very busy month for us at The Cat Cafe. In addition to Comic-Con, which brings 130,000 additional people to downtown San Diego, we’re right in the middle of the summer vacation season. And school is out for the summer as well.

Despite all of the increased visits to The Cat Cafe, July can be a hit or miss month for adoptions. Although we’ve done some long distance adoptions in the past, it’s not typical for someone vacationing in San Diego to take a cat home. And we also suspend adoptions for the week of Comic-Con. The crowds on the street can turn the most mild mannered cat into a feline hulk.

Ron Relaxing at The Cat Cafe Before Going Home
Ron Relaxing at The Cat Cafe Before Going Home

Despite all of this, during the month of July, The Cat Cafe sent two cats to their homes in July 2017. We’re glad that we sent Ron and Sookie to their homes, even though we’ll miss them. On the last day she was with us, Sookie seemed to know she was going home. She was very affectionate. She sat on the laps of a lot of staff members. It was like she knew she was leaving and she wanted to say goodbye and thank you.

The Cat Cafe is also glad to have raised $450 for The Rescue House. We want to thank our generous customers for this. Your donations will help The Rescue House continue to add to the more than 12,000 cats who have found homes through them.

We’re very happy to have accomplished these things in July. It’s always fun to send cats home, and it’s great to be able to present our rescue partner with funds to help them continue their work.

Thanks to all of our customers who helped make it happen. We hope you’ll visit The Cat Cafe again to spend time with old feline friends and to make new ones!

Specials At The Cat Cafe For Comic-Con

As you all know, during Comic-Con, The Cat Cafe goes to a reservations only system for admission to the cat playpen. You are welcome to make your purchases as normal, but those will not get you in to visit with the cats like they normally do. We simply cannot accommodate everyone who wants to get in to interact with our friendly cats during Comic-Con. That’s why we’ll require reservations, which you can book here.

We will be extending our hours at The Cat Cafe during Comic-Con. Normally, we are open until 3 PM. During Comic-Con, we will extend our hours by 90 minutes and will stay open until 4:30 PM.

And when we’re open, you’ll be able to enjoy a few extra things. First, we will have our partner, The Cravory, on site. We normally have prewrapped cookies available for our customers to purchase, and we’ll still have those. These cookies are great for people who want to take them to go, because they’ll fit into a bag or a backpack easily. But in order to make sure we’ve got enough cookies on site to take care of our customers, The Cravory will be on site.

The Cat Cafe is also very happy to be partnering with USA Networks. Those who visit the Mr. Robot Experience will be able to download a special promotion. You’ll get any coffee drink and a cookie for $5. Please note that this special does not get you entry in to visit with the cats. You will need to make a reservation for that.

We’re looking forward to seeing all of you enjoy the specials we’re doing around Comic-Con. It’s going to be very busy, and it’s going to be crowded. Please bring your patience when you come to see us. We definitely appreciate it and we appreciate your understanding as we change things at The Cat Cafe for Comic-Con.
