A Sunday Trio of Adoptions

Cat adoptions here at The Cat Cafe seem to come in waves. We’ll go a while without any, and then we have a bunch. That is what happened on Sunday. It was a long, but fun day for us. Going home days are the best for our kitties.

Suzy Was Adopted At The Cat Cafe
Suzy

The first adoption happened early in the morning, before The Cat Cafe opened. We had a couple of sisters visit, one who lives here in San Diego and another who was visiting from Boston. The sister who lived here fell in love with Suzy. She went home, and couldn’t stop talking about Suzy. They made the decision to adopt Suzy, and wanted to do it first thing in the morning. And that’s why at 7:30 we had our first adoption of the day.

Lani Was Adopted At The Cat Cafe
Lani

Next up was Lani. The couple who came in to adopt her was originally interested in a different kitty. In what happens a lot, the kitty they came in to adopt wasn’t the right one but they found one who was. That was Lani, and after falling in love with her, the adopting couple came in the next day to take her home.

Mongo was Adopted at The Cat Cafe
Mongo

The last adoption of the day took place for a kitty who just arrived. Mongo didn’t spend much time with us. He only spent two full days with us before he went to his forever home. And only one of these days was spent in the playpen. It didn’t take long for this big boy’s purrs and friendly personality to win someone’s heart. And now, Mongo is no longer only a pawn in the game of life.

All these adoptions made for a busy day at The Cat Cafe, but it’s something that we’re happy to have done. These adoptions bring the total number of adoptions done at The Cat Cafe up to 42 and that is something we’re very proud of.

We’ll have new kitties join us at The Cat Cafe soon but join us in congratulating these kitties on finding their furever homes!

Three New Cats Arrive

Just in time for the weekend, we’ve got three new cats for you to enjoy at The Cat Cafe. It’s an interesting group of kitties and we hope you enjoy meeting them all.

Meet Campbell at The Cat Cafe
Campbell

Campbell was transferred from the San Diego County Department of Animal Services to San Diego Humane Society, and then he found his way to us here at The Cat Cafe. This three year old ginger tabby is a little unusual in that he likes to be held. He actually doesn’t mind being pet vigorously and if you do it just right, he won’t just purr. He’ll drool. Some people may say that’s kind of gross but if you adopt Campbell from us, you’ll learn to see this as a kitty shower of love.

Meet Gus at The Cat Cafe
Gus

Gus is a five year old Maine coon mix who was surrendered because the people who were caring for him said he was too talkative. This brown longhair tabby does like to talk, no question about it. When he arrived at The Cat Cafe, he was talking up a storm, and when he got out of his crate, he didn’t get any more quiet. He’s settling in well, and loves to greet people he likes with head bonks and a friendly meow. If you don’t mind a cat who likes to talk to people he likes, Gus might be a good fit for you.

Meet Mongo at The Cat Cafe
Mongo

We didn’t have any Maine coons here at The Cat Cafe for a while, and now we have two Maine coon mixes. With a name like Mongo, it can’t be a surprise that this grey and white four year old kitty is a big one. Mongo is a gentle giant, who’s a little shy at first, but who will warm up to you if you talk to him and pet him. And once you get him to like you, just like his namesake, he will want to stay with you.

We’d love to see you come visit these guys or to say hello to some of the kitties who have been at The Cat Cafe longer.

New Arrivals and One Departure

We’ve got a bunch of new kitties in at The Cat Cafe, just in time for the weekend. You’re going to like these guys. And it’s not as easy as It thought to find the right cats to bring in. I went kitty shopping at San Diego Humane Society to get these cats, and it took a lot more work than I thought it would. I found a bunch of cats that looked good initially, but who I decided would not do well in our environment.

That means that the cats who made the trip down the 5 to join us at The Cat Cafe are definitely cool cats!

I’m sure you want to know more, and I’ll give you a quick intro to them:

  • Tigger is a four year old orange and white tabby with an amazing swirl pattern and a tail that you could possibly train him to use as a feather duster.  He’s come a long way from a stray cat who was cold, scared, and hungry.
  • Our second cat named Lani is a brown tabby who is eight years old. But when you get her playing with her favorite toy, she’s like an eight month old kitten!
  • Meet Kona At The Cat CafeWe just can’t seem to stay away from siblings, because Lani’s sister Kona joined us as well. This house panther is a little feisty with other cats, but she loves to play with people. Like her sister, she may be eight years old, but get her going and she’s like an eight month old kitten.
  • You can’t have a cat cafe without an orange tabby, and we’ve got two of them. Pocahontas is one of four cats that came in when their human couldn’t care for them properly. This four year old girl is a little shy but once she warms up, she loves to play.Captain can be adopted at The Cat Cafe
  • Captain is a playful and fun three year old kitty who loves to show of his purr motor. It took him just one day to get out in the playpen and start to solicit attention. It’s like he wanted to join us, because he hopped right into the box when we were thinking about a different cat coming to The Cat Cafe.

In addition to the new arrivals, there’s been a departure from The Cat Cafe. After 90 days at one location, San Diego Humane Society transfers cats to other locations to see if they can be adopted there. Our big adorkable brown tabby Momo hit that time limit.

He’s been transferred to the Gaines Street location, and he’s available for adoption there. And you better believe that if he’s still there after 90 days, we will ask to have him brought back.

Come on by and meet our new arrivals!

A Pair of Sibling Adoptions

Yesterday, we started out with eight cats at The Cat Cafe. By the time we went home, we were down to four cats. That’s because we had two sibling pairs go home. Michelle and Miguel, a couple of black and white cats who were saved when a kind person saw the two of them wandering around without their mother as kittens went to their new home. So did a cute calico pair, Alice and Lucy.

Michelle and Miguel had people say they were going to adopt them, but then they got stood up. This happened twice. We were worried that they were going to get a complex and feel like they were being rejected, but they never showed it.

Michelle With Her New Family

One family came in over the weekend and fell in love with them. Another one of the children came in yesterday to meet our tuxedo and cow cat pair. It was love at first sight. And soon, Michelle and Miguel were on their way to their new home.

Alice and Lucy at The Cat Cafe

Alice and Lucy didn’t stay with us here at The Cat Cafe as long as Michelle and Miguel did. They found a new home in a about a week. We had a customer come in one day and come back the next to adopt these two calico sisters. She wanted a pair, and what better way to get a pair of kitties than to get two sisters who snuggle like this?

And that is how Alice and Lucy found their way to a new home. We’re really excited about these two adoptions, which brings us up to 38 adoptions since we went to our full hours in January.

With four kitties going home, though, we’re down to only four cats in The Cat Cafe. Please be understanding if you visit and there aren’t as many cats as you’d like in the playpen. We’re working with San Diego Humane Society to bring more kitties in and look forward to introducing you to them soon.

Say Hello to A Very Special Cat

One of the things that we want to do here at The Cat Cafe is highlight a wide variety of cats. That includes special needs cats. Given that I have a diabetic cat at home, how could I not want to take the opportunity to show the community that while special needs cats may require a little extra attention and care, they are wonderful and loving cats.

Sylvia at The Cat Cafe
Sylvia

The last special needs cat we had at The Cat Cafe was Sylvia, who had her tail amputated due to trauma inflicted on it which caused it to become degloved. We had a lot of fun with her, and we were sad to say goodbye to her when she went home even though we knew she was going to a great home!

Wilson at The Cat Cafe
Wilson Exploring the Playpen At The Cat Cafe

The latest arrival to The Cat Cafe is a special needs cat named Wilson. Wilson, as you can tell from his picture, is missing an eye. When he came in to San Diego Humane Society, he was not doing well. In addition to being blind in one eye, he was suffering from mange. Mange is typically a disease that’s associated with dogs, but cats can get it, too.

Wilson was treated for the mange, and it’s completely gone now. In addition, the veterinarians from San Diego Humane Society decided that it would be best for the welfare of Wilson if his blind eye was removed.

That was done about a month ago, and now Wilson is getting used to living in The Cat Cafe. We’re really happy to have him in here so that we can highlight how even though special needs cats do require more attention than those without medical conditions, they make wonderful loving companions for people who can give them the care they need.

Come on in and meet Wilson. You may find that this one eyed cat is the perfect one for you.

Introducing Tortie Tuesdays At The Cat Cafe

Tortitude. Tortoiseshell cats have it, and we’ve had a few that put it on full display. Right now we have one tortie, and we’ve adopted a couple of them out. And they all have their own versions of tortitude.

Blossom
Blossom

Remember Blossom? This sweet girl wasn’t the most active girl, but she was definitely a friendly one. And she loved to show her affection to people in a very unusual way. She loved to lick people.

Shyla Was Adopted From The Cat Cafe
Shyla

Then there was Shyla. She definitely put the full tortitude on display. Her little trick was to hop into the middle of a group of cats and growl at all of them to assert her authority. At first the rest of the cats wondered what they did to deserve the hostile response. But after a while, they were like, whatever, Shyla.

Meet Suzy At The Cat Cafe
Suzy

And now we have Suzy. She’s kind of in between Shyla and Blossom. She’s fine with other cats, but when they annoy her, the tortitude comes out.

In honor of these, and all the other torties out there, we’re introducing Tortie Tuesdays at The Cat Cafe. Torties are brown and orange. The flavors that match their colors are chocolate and caramel. On Tuesdays, you’ll be able to add those flavors to any of your drinks at no cost, starting on March 31.

There will also be a change in hours at The Cat Cafe. Beginning on April 1, we’ll be opening an hour later, at 8 AM. We just weren’t seeing enough people coming in between 7 and 8 for it to make sense for us to open at 7.

We want to thank everyone who’s visited The Cat Cafe and we look forward to seeing you in here for the next Tortie Tuesday! Maybe you’ll take home an adoptable tortie to match your drink when you visit us.

A Long Drive Makes for a Happy Adoption

We’re always happy when one of our cats gets adopted and goes to a good home. We know that taking them home makes their adopters happy, and it’s a big part of what we are looking to do here at The Cat Cafe. Sometimes, though, there’s an adoption where the person taking the cat really goes the extra mile — in this case, literally.

Jojo is definitely a friendly and fun guy. And so it’s not a surprise at all that someone who met him wanted to take him home. What made this adoption different is that the person who wanted to give Jojo a home was in Los Angeles and couldn’t make it to San Diego for a week.

Jojo Was Adopted From The Cat Cafe
Jojo

We don’t put cats on hold here at The Cat Cafe, so we asked her to call on Friday and schedule an adoption appointment for Saturday. That way, if Jojo was still here, she’d be able to take him home.

Friday rolled around, and Jojo still hadn’t been adopted. We were very happy to schedule the adoption appointment for after we closed on Saturday.

We didn’t realize this, but the person adopting Jojo actually lives in Los Angeles. She came to visit The Cat Cafe when she was visiting San Diego for the weekend. The last thing she expected to do was to make a trip to San Diego the next week to adopt a cat.

Jojo and His Adopter Right Before He Headed Home

But Jojo had other ideas. His friendly personality shone through even a brief visit and that is all it took to get someone to fight Southern California traffic to adopt him. Jojo is such a kind cat that he didn’t fuss at all when he went into his carrier for the trip to his new home.

We’re really happy that The Cat Cafe can be a part of happy adoption stories like this one. So far, we’ve sent 30 cats home and we’re hoping that even more find good homes.

Maybe you’ll join the list of adopters from The Cat Cafe?

The Cat Cafe’s March 14 Arrivals

One of the nicest things about what we’re doing here at The Cat Cafe is that we’re adopting out a lot of cats, which means that we get new arrivals quite frequently. We received some new cats in over the past few days, and I’d like to introduce them all to you. I’m sure you’ll find something to love about at least one of the latest cats to join us at The Cat Cafe.

Meet Suzy At The Cat Cafe
Suzy

We can’t seem to get away from cats with tortitude. Suzy is our latest tortoiseshell cat. She’s a little shy and she’ll need some time to get used to the new space. She’s a little older, at ten years, and she also needs a little help with weight management because she’s 20 pounds. We’ll work on getting both her and Lani in shape.

Meet Manon At The Cat Cafe
Manon

We couldn’t let our buddy Momo, who’s spent the most time here at The Cat Cafe, be the only brown tabby in our mix. That’s why Manon joined us. We recommend that all cats be indoor only cats, but Manon has to be one because she has been front paw declawed. She’s also shy, but once she warms up to you, she is very easy going and mellow. Maybe you can take Manon and Momo home together and have a mellow pair of brown tabbies?

Meet Miguel at The Cat Cafe
Miguel

Miguel is part of a brother and sister pair we got in. He’s five years old and a fairly big guy, weighing in at 15 pounds. He’s the more adventurous of the siblings, and loves to do belly rolls onto your feet when he gets to know you. He is also not shy at all about letting you know what’s on his mind.

Meet Michelle at The Cat Cafe
Michelle

The other half of the sibling pair is named Michelle. She’s what I call a cow cat, because her black and white pattern resembles that of a cow. She’s the same age, five, as Miguel and she’s smaller, weighing 10 pounds. Miguel helps her come out of her shell and it’s best if this pair goes home together. They love to hang out together here at The Cat Cafe.

With us having record breaking heat here in San Diego, come on over and hang out with the cool cats at The Cat Cafe!

More Arrivals For the Weekend

With our recent adoptions, we were down to five cats. And with the weekend coming up and the pace of our adoptions, I was worried that we would face a situation where The Cat Cafe had no kitties.

That’s not something we have to worry about with our new arrivals. These cats are an interesting group, and they’ll be a lot of fun to interact with. They arrived a couple of days ago and some of them already are strutting around the playpen like they’ve been here forever.

Here’s the new group:

  • Shyla is a petite tortie, and she’s definitely got “tortitude.” She’s a playful girl, but she’s a little feisty around other cats. She came from a bad situation where she got infested with fleas. The vets at San Diego Humane Society have treated her and she’s ready for her home but she will need flea treatments for the rest of her life.
  • BootsBoots is a calm and loving senior cat, and he’s very trusting of new people. You might think a ten year old cat would be slowing down some, but not Boots. On his first day in the playpen, he scampered right up to the top ledge, which is about eight feet off the ground.
  • Kitty is a Himalayan mix, and he just got a lion cut. He takes a while to warm up, possibly because he’s not used to his fur being so short yet, but once he does, that purr motor gets going. We love having exotic mixes here at The Cat Cafe and we’re glad he’s here.Super Gato
  • Super Gato is a very friendly cat. He loves to do belly rolls and will give you constant head bonks once he gets to know you. And he’s got an adorable little heart on his nose. How can you say no to such an interesting guy?

Come on by and meet our new arrivals at The Cat Cafe. With the number of adoptions we have had here, you probably want to get in soon!

Three Cats Go Home, One Comes Back

It’s always a happy day here at The Cat Cafe when we get a chance to send cats to their homes. We had three adoptions in two days, and one of the cats we adopted came back to us.

The first cat to go home was Truvy. When she arrived here, this was the first chance Truvy had to be a cat in her life. Our partners at San Diego Humane Society brought Truvy to us after getting her from a shelter that was overcrowded. In that shelter, Truvy had spent all seven years of her life mostly confined to a cage. It shouldn’t be a surprise that Truvy was very happy to be able to roam around freely all day long.

And that playful attitude is what caused Truvy’s new family to fall in love with her and take her home. Truvy has already fit right in to her new home.

Roddy Being Adopted At The Cat Cafe
Roddy Being Adopted At The Cat Cafe

The next day, we sent our first kitten, Roddy, to a new home. Roddy’s adopters visited San Diego Humane Society’s main campus at Gaines Street. When they asked about him, they were told to come here. So they did, and they fell in love with Roddy right away. After that, there was no question that they had to take him home.

Justin Was Adopted At The Cat Cafe
Justin With His New Family

Not long after Roddy went to his home, Justin made the trip to his. Initially, the person who adopted Justin wanted to meet Momo. And she liked Momo, but Justin kind of picked her as his human. Who was she to argue with him, especially when he started to purr when she was petting him? So Justin left The Cat Cafe for his home in San Marcos.

But while three cats went to their new homes, we had one who came back. Lani was adopted but things didn’t work out, so she came back to us. We’re happy to have this sweet girl back here at The Cat Cafe, and hope to find her a home that’s perfect.
