New Arrivals and One Departure

We’ve got a bunch of new kitties in at The Cat Cafe, just in time for the weekend. You’re going to like these guys. And it’s not as easy as It thought to find the right cats to bring in. I went kitty shopping at San Diego Humane Society to get these cats, and it took a lot more work than I thought it would. I found a bunch of cats that looked good initially, but who I decided would not do well in our environment.

That means that the cats who made the trip down the 5 to join us at The Cat Cafe are definitely cool cats!

I’m sure you want to know more, and I’ll give you a quick intro to them:

  • Tigger is a four year old orange and white tabby with an amazing swirl pattern and a tail that you could possibly train him to use as a feather duster.  He’s come a long way from a stray cat who was cold, scared, and hungry.
  • Our second cat named Lani is a brown tabby who is eight years old. But when you get her playing with her favorite toy, she’s like an eight month old kitten!
  • Meet Kona At The Cat CafeWe just can’t seem to stay away from siblings, because Lani’s sister Kona joined us as well. This house panther is a little feisty with other cats, but she loves to play with people. Like her sister, she may be eight years old, but get her going and she’s like an eight month old kitten.
  • You can’t have a cat cafe without an orange tabby, and we’ve got two of them. Pocahontas is one of four cats that came in when their human couldn’t care for them properly. This four year old girl is a little shy but once she warms up, she loves to play.Captain can be adopted at The Cat Cafe
  • Captain is a playful and fun three year old kitty who loves to show of his purr motor. It took him just one day to get out in the playpen and start to solicit attention. It’s like he wanted to join us, because he hopped right into the box when we were thinking about a different cat coming to The Cat Cafe.

In addition to the new arrivals, there’s been a departure from The Cat Cafe. After 90 days at one location, San Diego Humane Society transfers cats to other locations to see if they can be adopted there. Our big adorkable brown tabby Momo hit that time limit.

He’s been transferred to the Gaines Street location, and he’s available for adoption there. And you better believe that if he’s still there after 90 days, we will ask to have him brought back.

Come on by and meet our new arrivals!

A Pair of Sibling Adoptions

Yesterday, we started out with eight cats at The Cat Cafe. By the time we went home, we were down to four cats. That’s because we had two sibling pairs go home. Michelle and Miguel, a couple of black and white cats who were saved when a kind person saw the two of them wandering around without their mother as kittens went to their new home. So did a cute calico pair, Alice and Lucy.

Michelle and Miguel had people say they were going to adopt them, but then they got stood up. This happened twice. We were worried that they were going to get a complex and feel like they were being rejected, but they never showed it.

One family came in over the weekend and fell in love with them. Another one of the children came in yesterday to meet our tuxedo and cow cat pair. It was love at first sight. And soon, Michelle and Miguel were on their way to their new home.

Alice and Lucy didn’t stay with us here at The Cat Cafe as long as Michelle and Miguel did. They found a new home in a about a week. We had a customer come in one day and come back the next to adopt these two calico sisters. She wanted a pair, and what better way to get a pair of kitties than to get two sisters who snuggle like this?

And that is how Alice and Lucy found their way to a new home. We’re really excited about these two adoptions, which brings us up to 38 adoptions since we went to our full hours in January.

With four kitties going home, though, we’re down to only four cats in The Cat Cafe. Please be understanding if you visit and there aren’t as many cats as you’d like in the playpen. We’re working with San Diego Humane Society to bring more kitties in and look forward to introducing you to them soon.

Say Hello to A Very Special Cat

One of the things that we want to do here at The Cat Cafe is highlight a wide variety of cats. That includes special needs cats. Given that I have a diabetic cat at home, how could I not want to take the opportunity to show the community that while special needs cats may require a little extra attention and care, they are wonderful and loving cats.

The last special needs cat we had at The Cat Cafe was Sylvia, who had her tail amputated due to trauma inflicted on it which caused it to become degloved. We had a lot of fun with her, and we were sad to say goodbye to her when she went home even though we knew she was going to a great home!

Wilson at The Cat Cafe

The latest arrival to The Cat Cafe is a special needs cat named Wilson. Wilson, as you can tell from his picture, is missing an eye. When he came in to San Diego Humane Society, he was not doing well. In addition to being blind in one eye, he was suffering from mange. Mange is typically a disease that’s associated with dogs, but cats can get it, too.

Wilson was treated for the mange, and it’s completely gone now. In addition, the veterinarians from San Diego Humane Society decided that it would be best for the welfare of Wilson if his blind eye was removed.

That was done about a month ago, and now Wilson is getting used to living in The Cat Cafe. We’re really happy to have him in here so that we can highlight how even though special needs cats do require more attention than those without medical conditions, they make wonderful loving companions for people who can give them the care they need.

Come on in and meet Wilson. You may find that this one eyed cat is the perfect one for you.
